Family of Fred and Alma Koenig

in 1984, having belonged to the same family for 100 years. Fred died 10 Jan 1968 at Postville. Alma was an expert in quilting and needlework. She died 1 Feb 1990 at Postville. They belonged to St. Paul Lutheran church in Postville and are both buried in the Postville Cemetery.

Children of Fred and Alma Koenig are: Harlen (b. 29 Nov 1917 at Postville) married Lorraine Pfenning at Postville 8 Dec 1938. Lorraine was born 28 Feb 1920 at Waukon, IA. Their children are: Shirley, Donald, Lu Ann, Duane, Douglas, Bradley, Peggy Sue and Lisa Ann.

Leonard (b. 20 Sep 1919 at Castalia) married Florence Snitker at Waukon 20 Jan 1943. Florence was born 28 Feb 1922 at Waukon. She died 11 Mar 1984 at Rochester, MN. Their children are: Karen, Sharon, Ronald, Leon and James.

Verne (b. at Castalia) married Ardith Schultz at Postville 2 Sep 1942. Ardith was born at Castalia. Their children are: Bonnie, Gary, Jody and Kelly.

Milton (b. 27 Apr 1923 at Castalia-died 12 Nov 1993 at LaCrosse, Wl) married Gwendolyn Schultz at Castalia 17 Nov 1948. Gwendolyn was born at Castalia. Their children are: Suzanne, Melissa, Laurice and Kyle.

Loren (b. at Castalia) married Ruby Snitker at Ludlow, IA 10 Apr 1947. Ruby was born at Waukon. Their children are: Roger, Robert, Dennis, Michael and Ronelle.

Earl (b. at Castalia) married Bernice Bachelder at Postville 24 Oct 1947. Bernice was born  at Castalia. Their children are: Steven, Dale, David and Frederick.

Gale Koenig was born at Decorah, IA. He is the son of Orville and Irene (Bachelder) Koenig. Gale attended school in Postville and graduated from Postville High School. After graduation he farmed with his parents on the home farm in Bloomfield Twp.

Gale married Kathy Stahr 3 Jul 1982 at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Eldorado, IA. Kathy was born at West Union, I A. Her parents are Dwaine and Irene Stahr who live near Eldorado. Kathy graduated from North Fayette High School in West Union. She attended Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, IA where she received the degree of Occupational Therapy assistant. Before her marriage she was employed by Keystone Area Education Association at Elkader, IA and Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, IA.

Since their marriage, Gale and Kathy have lived and farmed in Section 23 of Bloomfield Twp where Gale’s grandparents, William and Emma Koenig lived.
